NUMBER ONE on the UK SOUL CHART for 2 weeks.

Album Reviews 'Love, Life & Strings':

"...sounds like a lost artefact that's been languishing in Motown's vaults for 45 years...
....Destined to be one of the best Soul LPs of 2015"
Charles Waring - Soul&Jazz&Funk.com

"...you could drop the needle on any track on offer here and come up with a winner"
Toby Walker - Soulwalking.com

"A marvellous meshing of a sophisticated vocalist with meaningful repertoire and classy arrangements"
"Shining with both the nostalgia of Motown and Philadelphia International in an impressively fresh fashion.......Shaw's bold, crisp vocal tones are beautifully unaffected"
Justin Kantor - SoulTracks.com (USA)

"..the ease with which she soars and dips, shimmers and explodes....a voice that's strong pure, gutsy and mellow.... sweet, smooth and unpretentious....the song left me speechless.."
"..an absolute gem in construction and delivery"
Sharon Davis (Motown UK, Blues & Soul, Soulmusic.com)

"A future classic......This ambitious and optimistic album has that feel good factor and deserves to be one of the Soul albums of the year."

PRODUCTION NOTES (Andy Birkinshaw)
Heavily influenced by 60s/ 70s American Soul Music, more specifically Motown, Philadelphia, Atlantic Records and the like, the Love, Life & Strings album project is an homage to a musical genre almost forgotten about in it's land of conception, but idolised and kept alive for over 50 years by a fanatical fan base in the UK and Europe.
Luckily, some of the original recording artists of the era are still around, and are regularly invited to perform in the UK for their adoring fans, and myself, Diane and her band have been privileged to have worked with and performed alongside many of the soul greats that we ourselves grew up listening to.
The production values of the album project where strictly adhered to one founding principal, recording music the way it was made 'back in the day'...performed live with full band and orchestration, and recorded directly to analogue tape.
We also approached many of the original songwriters from the era, who are mostly forgotten in today's music industry, but were masters in penning true songs and musical arrangements, some of their iconic songs are still being played on the radio 50 years from when they were first written. Not many of today's songwriters will be able to say that in 2065! We were very privileged to have some songs written especially by these people for Diane on this album.
Rare and Vintage 1960's Ludwig Drumkits were hired in for the sessions, as well as an early 70's Yamaha Piano.
The Live room at 80 Hertz Studio in Manchester was specifically chosen to record the string section because of it's unique natural ambient sound, one of the only studios in the country that can provide this outside of Abbey Road in London.
Lisa Stansfiled's Gracieland Studio was chosen for the talents of Lisa's long serving Engineer/Producer Steve Boyce-Buckley, and the unique analogue sound of their Rupert Neve 9098 Mixing console.
All vocals were recorded on an original 1950's Neumann U47 microphone, care of Studiocare, Liverpool.
The fact that this microphone alone still sounds better than all of the modern day equivalents, no matter how much money or technology you throw at it, is a great metaphor for the concept of this album, that not everything has improved with time and technology.
